Life V. Marathon Day 58

I've got a problem, and that problem is speed. And I'm not talking about drugs, but like a drug, I can't seem to kick this habit of running fast. With my right calf still bothering me, I should be doing runs at 7:15 to 7:25 pace. I did 8 miles this evening at 6:40 per mile!

Most of you are probably saying, I wish I had that problem. I'm telling you, sometimes it's not a good thing. It can really start to wear on your body after a while and you can end up overtrained. If I continue to run these paces day in and day out, I'll end up fatigued and my body will not be able to recover from my quality workouts.

So...tomorrow is 10 miles easy 7:15 to 7:25 pace. It's going to take more concentration on my part to stay at this pace.

  1. Man, I will try to send some of my slowness over to you! Can you send me some of that speed please?!? I do see what you are saying. Don't forget the the free running advice from that coach, "Don't try, do." Easier said than done, I guess?

  2. This applies to runners of all levels. I know you're training for your first half, and since you're fairly new to running, you run an even higher risk of overtraining than I do. Make sure you're getting your recovery days and you are not doing your long run too fast.

  3. Thanks...this week I ran two days in a row and it seriously hurt me! I like going every other day or filling the days in between with cross training. Only then do I feel like all my joints are working correctly. Hopefully this won't always be the case because the days I run (jog, whatever, if you asked the Boring Runner guy), are the days I sleep the best! Love it! My real training schedule doesn't start until 8 weeks out from the Lake to Lake and then after that it's time to start with the half schedule. Is it okay to just go from training to training like that? Because after the half I want to start training for a tri. Maybe too ambitious? Wait, I'm asking this question to the wrong person!
